Of course, Korea has clear pecking order in their society too.
When you grow up you have no choice but to serve the nation. Yeah, military.
If you are rich you can pay some doctor to write a paper that proves you are unable to serve 2 years of military service. Ohhh, by the way only males do it.
I can't seem to understand why people even want to visit Korea or have interest in their song, drama and etc. What's the point? Korea is not worth it.
